Frankford Athletic Association

Sports thrived in and around Frankford, and the community organized several local teams. The rivalry between two Frankford teams in particular inspired the creation of the Frankford Athletic Association. Football games between the Pennant Club and The Central electrified the Frankford community. Looking to capitalize on this community support, the F.A.A. was formally organized in 1899.

Men of Frankford came together to start the F.A.A and encouraged the neighborhood to get involved. On May 25, 1899, a meeting was held at the Suburban Club where plans to offer 100 shares in the F.A.A. at $10.00 per share were agreed upon. At the end of each year, F.A.A. profits were donated to community organizations like the Frankford Hospital nursery and local parks.

Standard F.A.A. Player Contract – Ed Weir

The aim of the Association being to stand second to none in the Foot Ball and Base Ball World and give Frankford people first-class games at a nominal figure.

Although baseball remained the F.A.A.’s primary sport – generating over four times the revenue as football and winning the 1905 Championship – the football team continued its dominance of local teams during the first decade of the 20th century. The team began to schedule more games, upgrade the grounds and build bigger grandstands.
