Howard Berry, Jr.

Fullback, Penn

Played 1 season with the Frankford Yellow Jackets

Joseph Howard Berry Jr. joined the Yellow Jackets midway through the 1922 season and single-handedly provided the team’s offense in his first two games. In fact, it was his “mighty toe” that beat Akron 6-3, and the following week tied Buffalo 3-3 in front of nearly 20,000 spectators.
His athleticism was no surprise after an All-American football career at the University of Pennsylvania, along with being a pentathlon champion and varsity baseball player. He made his major league debut with the New York Giants baseball team in 1921 while his father, Joseph Howard Berry Sr., had played for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1902.
